The Teva champs will take place on the 4th of October in South East Queensland and to provide participants with even more adventure, including a paddle leg, the location for the Teva Champs has moved to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland just one hour north of Brisbane to a location that provides some of the most scenic course options, awesome adventure activities and Race HQ facilities. With a record number of Virgin Adventurers, it was great to see the Adventure scene in Adelaide continue to grow. But most of all, despite Adelaide's wettest July in 20 years which meant rain, mud & a chill in the air, it was so great to see everyone still smiling when they crossed the finish line.

The Virgin Adventure Club is a feature in the Teva Adventure Series Newsletters aimed at providing our virgin adventurers with a few hints and tips that, as a first timer to the sport may help you along the way! This week we feature the CHECK POINT DESCRIPTIONS CHECK POINT DESCRIPTIONS
A red circle on the map indicates the location of the check point, however, the exact spot where the flag and control box are located can be anywhere within a 100m radius of the circle, which could mean a lot of searching. This is where check point descriptions come in. Learn skills from the best riders in Australia! 9 days of riding in the best single track in the southern hemisphers with Aiden Lefmann and Jeff Toohey. The 9 days will include a trip to Taupo and a ride at Craters of the Moon. After snow last year in Melbourne it was great to see the sun shining brightly last Sunday as teams got to experience the beautiful mountain biking & scenery at Kurth Kiln Park and take on some very special challenges including a session in the mud at 'Harden Up' and with reigning Teva Champions Team Mountain Designs / Teva taking out line honours on the day. With a record field in Adelaide, Sunday the 12th of July saw Teva 2009 kick off with an almighty BANG! It might be one of the smaller Teva events, but our competitors were big on heart, big on generosity & even bigger on Adventure! 
In an almighty battle at the pointy end of the field we saw SA Ambulance & the SA Metropolitan Fire Service go neck & neck to the finish line with the guys from Hoses, Hooves & Heart Attacks from SA Ambulance taking out the line honours with SAMFS in second. We hear the SAMFS guys are planning to reverse the finish order next year :-). 
And in the most inspiring part of the day, it was fantastic to see that teams in Adelaide raised over $3,500 for the Starlight Children's Foundation with Team Golders taking out the Fundraising Hero award as our top fundraisers in SA! it was certainly a memorable day! Every year we have an awesome band of volunteers who help us at events, and have almost as much fun as those taking part. So, if you're not quite ready for the full adventure, why not come along to the event as a volunteer to see what everyone's raving about!

Check point descriptions are something that will help save a lot of time in your adventure racing career. Contrary to popular opinion, when you arrive at the general area where the check point is located, there will not be bells, whistles, flashing lights and the check point saying "Hey, over here, Here I am!!" :-), no we actually need to search, for it!
